Clinton sends Independence Day message to Israel

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday sent a message to Israel on the occasion its 63rd Independence Day, in which she praised the Jewish state's achievements, rich history and commitment to democratic institutions. She added that "Israel has been a beacon of hope and freedom for so many around the world."
Clinton noted that "sixty-three years ago the United States was the first country to recognize Israel's independence, and that spirit of kinship continues to guide us today." The US secretary of state affirmed the "deep, unshakable friendship" between the two states, saying, "We are bound together by our shared values and history pursuing freedom, equality and democracy. And this relationship is deepening every day."
