Eiland: Syria has no interest in transferring chem weapons

The leadership in Syria currently has no interest in transferring any of its chemical weapons to Hezbollah, Maj.-Gen. (ret.) Giora Eiland said on Sunday, adding that reports that Hezbollah has no interest in receiving those weapons may very well be true.
Responding to comments made by Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Friday that Israel is prepared to intervene militarily should such a transfer take place, Eiland asserted that Jerusalem has thus far decided it can live with the weapons in Syrian hands. If Syria attempts to transfer their weapons to Lebanon, Israel will have to make a strategic decision if it is worth acting to prevent it.Israel has had opportunities to prevent the transfer of conventional weaponry from Syria to Hezbollah in the past but chose not act, he told Israel Radio.
Asked about the possibility of refugees fleeing from Syria across the border into Israel, Eiland noted that the Golan Heights is not highly populated said he doesn't expect such a phenomenon to take place.
