English-speaking program for kids comes to Jerusalem

Following a successful pilot program, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat announced on Tuesday that six discounted English-speaking programs will open for children in the capital next month. In a statement, Barkat said the National Program for Excellence in English will feature instruction from American teachers in a “fun and empowering environment.”

The program, which is supported by the Education Ministry, local authorities, and the Steinhardt and Shusterman Foundations, received praise by students and parents after it was initially launched last summer in the north. The fee to register in one of the East Talpiot programs is NIS 500, Barkat said. For more information, parents can go to the municipality’s website.
