Erdan at Jpost Conference: Past Israeli gov'ts suckered

MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) stated on Sunday that Israeli governments have deluded themselves into believe that there is a Palestinian partner for peace.

Speaking in New York at The Jerusalem Post Conference, Erdan stated that painful Israeli concessions, including the evacuation of Gush Katif, have been met by disdain from the international community and rockets from the Palestinians.

"The heart of the conflict is not about the establishment of a Palestinian state, but rather about the refusal of the Palestinians to recognize the right to exist of the Jewish people," he said.

The Israeli minister of environmental protection said that he was barred from meeting his Palestinian counterparts, even over issues as basic as water. He said that this is a deliberate strategy of the PA as they "make cynical use of civilian issues" for political purposes.
