EU urges Iran to avoid confrontation with West

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt expressed hope Wednesday that Iran's leaders "will make the right choice" in avoiding confrontation with the international community. Reinfeldt called on Iran to "introduce reforms rather than create some conflicts" with the 27-nation European Union, the United States and others. Sweden took over the EU presidency Wednesday. Reinfeldt said the EU was also showing "solidarity and presenting a united front" with Britain. Iran has detained nine local British Embassy employees in Teheran. EU countries were considering what diplomatic measures they could take.
