Final Knesset law will allow sex crimes complainant to pick gender of investigator

The final law passed by the Knesset on Tuesday before dissolving itself in advance of early elections in March allows sex-crime complainants to select the gender of the investigator who questions them.
Under the law, which was approved by the Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee a day earlier, an investigator will be required to tell a complainant at the beginning of questioning that they have the right to select the gender of the person who takes their complaint. The law was put forward by MK Yifat Kariv (Yesh Atid), who told the committee on Tuesday that she was inspired in part by the story of a woman who issued a complaint about a sexually explicit video of her and an ex that was leaked on the smartphone app WhatsApp.
She said that she got the impression that in such cases having a woman perform the questioning would make things easier on the complainant.
