Former minister Benizri to be freed from prison

Former cabinet minister Shlomo Benizri will be released from prison on Thursday after serving two-and-a-half years of a four year sentence for accepting bribes, breach of trust, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Benizri will win an early release Thursday along with some 600 other prisoners after the Knesset Interior Committee approved on Wednesday a reduction of the number of people that can be housed in Israel's prisons.
The former minister was due to win an early release next month after a Prison Service parole board decided in January that Benizri's good conduct and support he offered to other prisoners merited his parole.
