IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz on Monday questioned Russia's support of Syrian President Bashar Assad, who is fighting an uprising against his regime.
"Strangely, there's a Russian support in the Assad regime that is not insignificant," the chief of staff said.

"This is a grave situation because it means strategic weapons that could move to an unstable area," he said and stressed that the IDF has preparing for such a scenario for over a year.
Gantz also expressed concern over Hezbollah's military capabilities in Lebanon. "This is the only sub-state organization that has abilities that states don't have," he said.
