BERLIN — German prosecutors said an alleged Israeli spy sought in connection with the slaying of a Hamas leader in Dubai last year has paid a fine for forging official documents.
Cologne prosecutors spokesman Rainer Wolf confirmed media reports on Monday that the passport-faking case against the suspect, known by the name Uri Brodsky, had been closed in exchange for a €60,000 ($80,100) fine.
The suspect was released in August and left Germany shortly afterward.
He is still wanted in Germany on charges of spying in a separate, federal case that remains open. He was arrested in Poland on June 4 and extradited to Germany on condition he not be tried on the spy charge.
