A top Hamas official in Damascus told The Associated Press on Tuesday evening that the group had rejected Israel's latest offer in talks over a prisoner exchange deal to secure the release of captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, and asked the German mediator to return to Israel for another offer. "Hamas decided to tell the German mediator that they will not accept this offer," the official said. "We are waiting for another round of mediation." The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was disclosing confidential discussions, said that negotiations still hinged on Israel's refusal to free 10 senior terrorists whose release Hamas demands. He said Israel also wants 200 freed security prisoners to be deported from the West Bank.
