Histadrut court: Cabel may not run for chairmanship

MK Eitan Cabel (Labor) may not run in the elections to lead Israel’s largest trade union, a Histadrut court determined on Tuesday night.
The Labor MK had petitioned the organization’s court after the Histadrut Appeals Committee said he had not been a member of the labor organization long enough to be a candidate for chairmanship.
The court said that there had been similar cases in the past, and allowing Cabel to run would undermine equality in the Histadrut.
Cabel is expected to take his case to an external court.
He has previously accused current Histadrut Chairman Ofer Eini of being afraid to run against Cabel and specifically targeting him through Histadrut bodies.
