IEC to use diesel during Tamar gas maintenance

The Israel Electric Corporation will use diesel fuel to fill an expected gap in gas this coming weekend as the Tamar rig undergoes maintenance.
The maintenance will slow the flow of gas for a few days, and stop it altogether for several hours. The IEC will produce 1,200 megawatts of power from diesel in its stead, while private producers will produce another 700 megawatts worth.
Diesel is more of a pollutant than natural gas.
In addition to diesel, the IEC will be turning to coal and liquified natural gas (LNG) stores.
