Inmate makes short-lived escape after snatching pistol

An inmate managed to go on the lam for two hours on Thursday, after he escaped from Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba where he was taken for treatment.
The convict, Michael Yeroslavski, 50, snatched the pistol off one of his guards at the hospital and had he and another guard place each other in handcuffs before fleeing the hospital, where he was taken early Thursday morning after complaining of back pains.
Two hours later Yeroslavski was arrested after a police helicopter spotted him hiding near Highway 4.
The incident led the Israel Prison Service to announce the formation of an investigative panel led by Maj. Gen. Eli Gavizon, which will examine how the escape was made possible.
Yeroslavski is imprisoned in Hadarim Prison, where he is serving a sentence for kidnapping and attempted murder. He was involved in the kidnapping of a Jerusalem businessman and convicted for that crime in January, along with accomplice Maxim Gorvitz.
