Israeli and Greek Education ministries tighten cooperation

Education Minister Shai Piron and his Greek counterpart, Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in the field of maritime education in both countries, as part of the first Israeli-Greek government- to-government meeting this week.
The fields of cooperation will include domains such as marine geology, biology, ecology, chemistry, mechanics, technology and aquaculture.
As part of the memorandum, the ministers also agreed to advance student exchanges between the two countries, and decided that Greek teenagers will come to Israel to visit Yad Vashem in order to “promote tolerance and eliminate the anti-Semitism and racism that grew in Greece mainly due to the rise of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party.”
In addition, the agreement stated that the ministries will organize meetings between pupils from both countries, promote cooperation between higher education institutions and establish a joint committee to oversee and advance the cooperation.
