Israeli bank notes to feature poets instead of politicians

The Bank of Israel decided that Israeli scholars, instead of politicians, will be printed on new Israeli bank notes, expected in 2012, Channel 2 reported Wednesday evening.
The bank notes will feature such poets as Shaul Tchernichovsky, Rachel, Leah Goldberg, and Natan Alterman.
The decision follows a series of discussions over which figures would be selected to appear on the new bank notes. In 2009, the Bank of Israel announced Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin would be featured on the notes but scrapped the idea for political reasons.
