Jail sentence reduced for perpetrator in 2008 hit-and-run

The Supreme Court on Wednesday partially accepted an appeal filed by Shai Simon and Shalom Yemini, who were convicted for running over and killing Meital Aharonson in 2008 in Tel Aviv.
The court ruled that the 20-year prison sentence imposed on Simon radically exceeds the conventional punishment and decided to reduce his sentence to 14 years.
The court also said that it was not possible to convict Yemini for the hit-and-run crime, but only for assisting in the crime, and his punishment was reduced from five years to two and a half years.
