Jumblatt slams March 8 alliance for failing to form gov't

Lebanese MP Walid Jumblatt threatened on Tuesday to withdraw his parliamentary block from the Hezbollah-led March 8 alliance, accusing the group of failing to form a new cabinet in Lebanon following its collapse when Hezbollah members quit in January 2011, Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star reported.
Jumblatt's warning is his strongest statements against the March 8 alliance since he threw his bloc's support behind Najib Mitaki, the opponent in the battle for premiership with caretaker Prime Minister Sa'ad Hariri.
According to the Daily Star, Jumblatt said it was "no longer logical" for parliamentary bloc to support the "state of stagnation, vacuum, and obstruction" by the new majority led Mitaki. Jumblatt blamed different political parties within the alliance for excessive bickering and competition for shares in the new parliament, which he claimed has stalled the formation process "for more than 100 days."
