Kiryat Malachi mayor asks court to shorten his custody

Kiryat Malachi Mayor Moti Malka appealed to shorten his remand on Thursday after police detained him on rape and corruption charges, Israel Radio reported.
Malka - who was arrested on Wednesday and is to be held in custody for 8 days - made the appeal at the Petah Tikva District Court.
Police suspect Malka repeatedly raped, sodomized and sexually abused a female employee of the municipality, in an investigation that shocked both local residents and the country.
