Libyan rebels say battle raging for control of Misrata port

ALGIERS - Rebels in the Libyan city of Misrata are in a fierce fight with government forces for control of the port and three local people have been killed, a rebel spokesman told Reuters on Tuesday.
"Gaddafi's forces bombarded the port today. The shelling destroyed several Toyota cars there and two stores for electric and electronic equipment," the spokesman, called Abdelsalam, said by telephone.
"The [pro-Gaddafi] troops launched an attack on an eastern area in a bid to control the port. Fierce fighting is taking place there now," he said. Asked about the death toll he said: "There are three martyrs and 10 wounded."
