Mazuz to close case against minister Katz due to lack of evidence

Mazuz to close MK Katzs

Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz announced his decision to close the case against Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz on Wednesday. Katz had been under investigation for several years for suspected abuse of his position as agriculture minister, in particular through alleged political appointments. Mazuz accepted the Tel Aviv district attorney's recommendation to close the file due to insufficient evidence, stating that the Attorney-General's Office could not determine whether Katz had made the appointments for political reasons. However, Mazuz stressed that Katz's conduct while serving as agriculture minister had clearly been inappropriate. He also issued a warning, saying there was enough incriminating evidence to charge other government officials with related offenses.
