Morsi cancels controversial decree, will draft new version

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Saturday night cancelled the constitutional declaration he issued November 22 that vastly expanded his powers, Egypt Independent reported.
According to the report, however, a new constitutional declaration is set to be drafted by a nine-member committee on Morsi's behalf, which will be immune from judicial appeal.
The announcement comes on the heels of widespread violent protests against Morsi's perceived power grab, in which at least seven people were killed.
Egypt Independent also reported that a national referendum on Egypt's newly drafted constitution will be held as originally scheduled on December 15.
