Nachman Shai: Army must thoroughly probe 'Breaking the Silence' claims

Kadima MK Nachman Shai called on the army Thursday to thoroughly investigate a 'Breaking the Silence' report which accused IDF soldiers of forcing Palestinians to serve as "human shields" during Operation Cast Lead in January. "The claims of the 'Breaking the Silence' organization regarding misconduct by IDF soldiers during Operation Cast Lead should be investigated thoroughly and seriously," Shai said in a statement. "Israel has been heavily damaged by these and previous reports, which join the international criticism leveled against Israel during the operation," he added. The MK called on the army to form a committee which would include both internal and external investigators, and urged the group to provide officials with all the information it possesses. Such a committee, he said, would be able to examine the testimonies and determine their veracity.
