Netanyahu threatens to leave Likud

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told Likud ministers over the last few days that if the Likud central committee votes to give itself the power to select the party's MKs he would leave the party, Likud officials confirmed Wednesday.
Netanyahu threatened that he and the rest of the party's MKs would form a new Likud party with the same ideology but without a central committee.
The Likud responded officially that Netanyahu would not need to take such a step because he will succeed at persuading the committee "not to make a move that would be so self-destructive."
Central committee member Natan Engelsman responded by calling Netanyahu's statement "media spin from a very worried man."
