Netivot proposes separate shelters for African migrants

The city of Netivot proposed a system of separate bomb shelters specifically for the cities African migrant population during a meeting with the new Homefront Defense Minister Avi Dichter this week.
According to the Netivot City Hall Spokesman Benny Cohen said the proposal was made to solve two issues, the fact that the 300-400 African migrants in the city don’t have access to bomb shelters in their places of residence, and because of what he said would be “integration problems” with the veteran Israelis seeking shelter. The proposal would have part of a building run by the Mekorot water company be modified to serve as a bomb shelter.
“Some of these people live in houses with 20 or 30 people near the old industrial areas in places where they don’t have access to shelters. So since they don’t have their own shelters they’ll have to go out and look for shelter throughout the neighborhoods,” said Cohen.
