Ototo to replace bus app NetBus

Popular Israeli public transportation app NetBus is soon to be replaced by an international venture called Ototo that involves both riders and drivers in a real-time route planning platform. Ototo, which seeks to provide “public transportation on demand,” was launched on Monday in Israel following a quiet rollout in 80 countries around the world.
Aiming to harness a critical mass of users, Ototo seeks to constantly meet the public transportation demands of its users with both active and passive mechanisms, according to its creators. Its predecessor NetBus, launched in May 2012, has allowed about half a million Israeli smartphone users to track their bus’s proximity in real time, using GPS signals provided by the Transportation Ministry.
In addition to providing updated transportation information to passengers, the system presents critical information to the driver, such as necessary speed adjustments, the need to wait at or skip a station or requirements to change the designated route.
