PA police found eight brothels in Ramallah since 2001

The Palestinian Authority police have discovered eight brothels in Ramallah since 2001, Ohaila Shomar, director of the civil society organization Sawa, was quoted Saturday as revealing.
Shomar said that the brothels had hired females whose ages ranged between 12 and 40.
The PA had repeatedly denied rumors about the existence of brothels in Ramallah.
She said the findings were included in a study that has just been published by Sawa, whose declared goal is to "eliminate violence against women and children in all its forms and at all levels, through support services and community awareness-raising."
Shomar was quoted by the Palestinian Wattan TV station as saying that the women who worked as prostitutes had fallen victim to domestic violence.
She said that social and economic factors played a role in trafficking in women, violence and sexual exploitation, in addition to the absence of safe houses and social protection networks.
