Palestinian religious group condemns 'atrocious' murder

A religious council representing among others the Palestinian religious authorities harshly condemned on Sunday “the atrocious murder of an innocent family. “This is a criminal act with no justifiable reasoning and should be treated as such,” a statement issued by the Council of Religious Institutions of the Holy Land read.

“Because of the tense political situation in the Holy Land, vicious acts like this can also have destructive effects on the political situation,” the council said. “We urge political leaders to intensify their efforts against incitement which lead to criminal acts like this and not to let such crimes come in the way of constructive work towards peace in the Holy Land.”

The council represents the high religious authorities of the Holy Land, including the Chief Rabbinate, Palestinian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Waqf), the Palestinian Sharia Courts and the assembly of the Heads of Churches of Jerusalem.
