Peres gives Abbas condolences on deaths of Palestinian kids

President Shimon Peres telephoned Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday to express sorrow and convey his condolences on the tragic deaths of seven Palestinian children and a teacher who lost their lives when a school bus in which they were traveling overturned and caught fire following a collision with a truck in the West Bank. Peres asked Abbas to tell the grieving families that his thoughts were with them in their time of anguish over the loss of their loved ones, and assured Abbas that Israel would continue to give the best possible medical care to those of the injured in the accident who had been transferred to Israeli hospitals.
In thanking Peres for his concern, Abbas said that this was a great tragedy for the Palestinian people, and that he had declared a period of national mourning.
