President Shimon Peres met with Justice Minister Yaakov Ne'eman Monday morning and urged him to take legal action against Jerusalem Mufti Sheikh Muhammed Hussein for reciting a passage from Muslim scripture calling for the killing of Jews.
Peres told the justice minister, "The mufti's words are dangerous and are likely to bring about an escalation in Jewish-Arab relations, thereby endangering lives."
Ne'eman responded to the president's request, saying he would order his office to open a thorough investigation into the available legal options for addressing the issue, Army Radio reported.
