PM: No place for harassment or discrimination in Israel

Israel is a liberal western democracy whose public spaces are open and safe to everyone, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday during the weekly cabinet meeting following reports of haredi [ultr-Orthodox] men harassing a modern orthodox girl.
A Friday night Channel 2 report showed an eight-year old modern orthodox girl afraid to walk 300 meters to school because of harassment from some haredim because of her attire.
"Men and women are equal [in Israel]. There is no place for harassment or discrimination," Netanyahu told cabinet members.
The prime minister explained during the meeting that Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch had updated him on efforts being made by the police to prevent further incidents.
