PMO official briefs heads of towns near Gaza on gov't aid

Harel Locker, the Prime Minister Office's chief of staff, met the heads of the municipalities and regional councils near the Gaza Strip on Tuesday to brief them on the steps the government is taking to ease their burden following Operation Pillar of Defense.
Locker said that in addition to the immediate work being done by the government bodies responsible for paying compensation for damages, the Knesset's Finance Committee approved payment for indirect damages, such as the loss of work days, and lost business revenue.
In addition to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's directives to streamline the bureaucracy in dealing with compensation requests, Locker said that a preliminary relief package of NIS 15 million to the local municipalities is in the works, as are plans for making up for lost school days.
