Police close entrance to Western Wall

Jerusalem Police closed a major entrance to the Western Wall Plaza via Jaffa Gate Tuesday morning due to a shortage of security guards.

In response to the closure – as well as similar closings of major arteries to the Wall during Passover – the Western Wall Heritage Foundation demanded that police review its practice of hiring private security guards.

Noting that police were aware that hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from around the world came to visit the Kotel, it insisted officials take measures to ensure the incident does not repeat itself.
