Port workers to begin general strike over salary wages

The Histadrut Labor Federation announced late Sunday that port workers will begin a general strike at 6 a.m. Monday morning without an end date in sight.
In the ports of Haifa, Ashdod and Eilat, no unloading or loading of containers or any other function will take place.
The decision to strike after negotiations between the chairman of the Histadrut trade union Avi Nissenkoren and Treasury salary supervisor Ilan Levin failed.
Negotiations have been ongoing between the two parties for ten months, as the Histadrut has been demanding a raise in salary wages for workers who were employed after the port reform in 2005.
