Presidential changeover to be low key

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein and President elect Reuven Rivlin issued a joint statement on Sunday to the effect that while the inauguration ceremony for Israel’s 10th president and farewell to the 9th president will take place as planned on Thursday, it will be much more modest than originally intended.
Due to the escalation in the security situation with more Israelis under threat, plus the fact that the nation is in mourning for fallen soldiers, Edelstein and Rivlin have informed all the relevant professionals involved with the ceremony that it will be toned down considerably.
The inauguration ceremony and the farewell to President Shimon Peres will take place in the Knessset plenum.  There will be an honor guard in the Knesset plaza to usher in the new president.  The swearing in ceremony will take place in the plenum but the cocktail reception that was to have been held in the Knesset’s Chagall Hall after the formalities has been cancelled.
