Report: Haniyeh confirms Gaza-Egypt power deal

Hamas Prime Minister confirmed on Tuesday that Gaza had agreed on a deal with Egypt to boost the Gaza Strip's energy supply at a time when a persistent energy crisis has caused rolling blackouts affecting most residents in the coastal enclave.
Egypt agreed Tuesday to provide the Strip with 22 megawatts of power, up from the 17 megawatts that were already provided for free. Gaza already receives 120 megawatts from Israel, and produces 80 megawatts from its own sole power plant.
Haniyeh was considering a trip to Cairo over the energy crisis, according to Hamas affiliate Al-Resalah, in which the authorities in Gaza had to cut power sometimes up to 18 hours a day.
