Rivlin, Shaked support commuting sentence of ex-president Katsav

Moshe Katsav, the former president who was sentenced to prison following a conviction for rape and other sex-related offenses, could be released as soon as this month, according to Channel 10.
The television station reported on Friday that both President Reuven Rivlin and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked support commuting the disgraced ex-politician’s sentence.
Katsav was due to serve seven years in prison following his conviction in December 2010.
The former president is due to appear before a parole board at the end of this month. According to Channel 10, if Katsav is not granted parole at the hearing, Shaked will recommend that Rivlin commute his sentence and grant him an early release.
