Sa'ar: Public judicial selections hearing bill is dangerous

Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar, a member of the Ministerial Committee on Legislation, said Friday night a bill that would make judicial selection hearings public was "dangerous" .
The Ministerial Committee on Legislation was set to discuss on Sunday the law put forward by Likud MKs Ze'ev Elkina and Yariv Levin.
"This is a dangerous proposal that would absolutely and unrestrainedly politicize the process of selecting Supreme Court judges. The proposal would make the Supreme Court a subservient extension of the political majority," said Sa'ar.
According to the bill, any judge appointed by the Supreme Court president would face a public hearing in the Knesset Law, Constitution and Justice Committee, which would have the right to disqualify the judge from serving in the High Court.
