Schools to take part in earthquake readiness drill

School children across the country are set to take part in a readiness drill on Monday to practice emergency procedures in the event of an earthquake. The drill will be held by the Education Ministry in collaboration with Home Front Command and local authorities and will encompass all preschools and schools throughout the country.
The exercise aims to increase the readiness of the education system to earthquakes and introduce the guidelines for protection to faculty and students alike, under the motto “the safest space is an open space.”
Teachers and pupils will be expected to quickly exit their classrooms into an open area as well as practice putting out small fires and evacuating wounded.   In conjunction the Israeli police, the Israeli Fire Brigade and Magen David Adom services will practice putting out fires and evacuation of wounded students outside the schools.
