Shalom presents long-weekend plan to business leaders

Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom presented a plan to move the Israeli weekend to Saturday and Sunday to business leaders on Thursday.
Shalom said that the plan will not change work hours at all. Friday will be a shorter work day, because of Shabbat, and the workers will make up for the lost hours on Monday through Thursday.
He added that changing the weekend will not only bring Israel in sync with the Western world, but also with powers in Asia, such as China, India and Japan, as well as many Muslim countries, like Turkey, Morocco and Indonesia, that do not work on Saturdays and Sundays.
