SPNI objects to Gabriella oil drilling

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel filed an objection with the Tel Aviv District Committee for Planning and Building on Wednesday against oil drilling in the Gabriella reservoir off the coast of Herzliya.

The drilling, according to SPNI, is scheduled to take place “in the heart of a marine reserve.”

Because the Poleg Nature Reserve has been neglected for years, the government has no idea what could be the benefits of the ecosystems there, SPNI continued.

Only about 1 percent of the oceans and seas are protected, whereas, about 12% of land throughout the world receives protection, the organization added.
