Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz on Monday advocated using legislation to solve the Ulpana outpost controversy.
"If a solution for the Ulpana neighborhood won't be found, I am not afraid of legislating a law on the issue," Steinitz said at a legal conference in Eilat. Since the Supreme Court ordered houses built on private Palestinian land in the outpost to be evacuated, the government has searched for a legal and politically palatable solution to the problem.
"It will not be a law bypassing the high court," Steinitz argued of a legislative approach,"but rather a law in which the Knesset corrects itself. This must not be a political issue, but an issue of simple logic and morals."
