Tourism minister: Adopt Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai tomb plan

Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov called on the government to adopt a 31 million shekel multi-year plan for managing and operating the tomb complex of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai during a tour of the site n Thursday in preparation for the Lag b’Omer celebrations which will take place early next month.
“The tomb has great tourism potential that has yet to be fully realized,” said Misezhnikov. “The success of last year’s events, in which more than half a million visitors and tourists participated, obligate the government to implement the multi-year plan developed by the Tourism Ministry that will facilitate the safe and efficient management and operation of the site and allow for the realization of its tourism potential. The plan was presented to the Finance Ministry and will be presented to the government in the coming weeks.”
The tourism minister instructed the relevant professional authorities to complete the work related to the safety of the visitors, access roads and upgrading the infrastructure, and invited the members of the team to accompany him on his visit to the site on Lag Ba’Omer.
