Trajtenberg: Secular, haredi divide is growing

Socioeconomic expert Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg contextualized the growing antipathy between the secular and the ultra-Orthodox populations, saying the secular cannot sympathize with a group that does not pay taxes, Army Radio reported Friday.
"It's hard to feel sympathy for anyone who doesn't work for or take part in the burden of paying taxes for services that he receives," Trajtenberg said.
Trajtenberg, who headed a government mandated commission on socioeconomic change earlier this year, said that Israel's survival is based on a system of inclusiveness.
"For Israeli society not only to survive, but also to thrive, we must commit ourselves to an all-around inclusiveness. The alternative is civil war," Trajtenberg warned.
