Turkey took over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council
for the month of September on Wednesday and will preside over two keynote meetings.
Turkish President Abdullah Gül will chair one meeting September 23 on "the protection of peace."
A second meeting, on the global fight against terrorism, will be held Sept. 27 and will be chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.
The presidency rotates monthly by alphabetical order among the security council member countries.
Turkey and Brazil were the only two security council nations that voted against sanctions on Iran in June.
