Turkish report: Delays in UAV delivery from Israel resolved

The technical problems that have caused a more than two-year-long delay in the delivery of Israel's Heron unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Turkey have reportedly been overcome, Turkish daily Zaman reported on Monday. According to the local defense industry sources, the Turkish and Israeli sides are now negotiating over the amount of compensation to be paid due to the Israeli delay of the UAVs. The Jerusalem Post could not independently confirm this report. The delayed delivery was Ankara's initial pretext for calling off the Israeli participation in last month's Anatolian Eagle exercise that was to take place in Turkey and was also to include US, Italian and NATO forces. Later, Turkish officials ascertained that the reason for calling off the IAF's participation was because the planes that Israel was going to send likely bombed Hamas targets during Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip earlier this year.
