UN criticizes Greece over migrant conditions

ATHENS, Greece— The United Nations' refugee agency has criticized Greek authorities over a severe deterioration in conditions at detention facilities for illegal migrants at the Greek-Turkish border.
The latest warning Friday from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, follows a shift in 2010 of popular trafficking routes away from targeting Greek islands in the Aegean Sea and toward the Greece's 200-kilometer (125-mile) land border with Turkey.
The agency says migrants detained in the border area are typically crammed into cells with "dire hygiene conditions."
