US says "deeply concerned" by human rights in China

BEIJING - The United States is "deeply concerned" about the deterioration of human rights in China, US Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner said on Thursday after talks with China over the issue.
"We've seen a serious backsliding on human rights," said Posner, who steers US diplomacy related to democracy, human rights and labor affairs. He was speaking at a news conference in Beijing after a human rights dialogue between the two countries.
"The facts are that things have worsened," he said.
Posner added that he had raised the case of detained Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, but that "We certainly did not get an answer that satisfies."
