Weinstein: Likud must remove illegal ad

Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein on Tuesday night sent a letter to the Central Elections Committee declaring a billboard for Likud Beytenu illegal due to its placement on a government building. The billboard was near the main entrance to Jerusalem on the road between the capital and Tel Aviv, near the central bus station.

Weinstein said the billboard violated section two of the 1959 Election Law, which, broadly speaking, prohibits using government assets and real estate for campaign purposes. He said that it must be removed immediately and issued an injunction against the Likud Beytenu list, compelling it to take down the billboard. The letter said the billboard is juxtaposed to a reference to it being a government building dealing with the Finance Ministry’s tax and property offices.
