Welfare group welcomes initiative to lower price of bread

The NGO Latet, which distributes food to needy populations in Israel, welcomed the announcement of Economy and Commerce Minister Naftali Bennett, who expressed his intention of lowering the price of bread on Monday.
Executive Director of Latet, Eran Weintraub, said he hopes that the move represents a change in the trends of the last two years, during which the prices of bread, milk, water, electricity, fuel and other basic consumer products had gone up.
“We expect the government to immediately formulate a comprehensive national emergency plan to reduce the gaps in Israeli society and set measurable goals to eradicate poverty,” Weintraub added.
Minister of Economy and Commerce Naftali Bennett signed an order to cut the price of bread by 4.17% on Monda. The new prices are expected to be published in the coming days.
Prior to Bennett’s initiative, there had been no decrease in the prices of bread since 2009.
