Yishai: Beit Shemesh spitting is 'nauseating, disgusting'

Interior Minister Eli Yishai (Shas) on Monday condemned an incident in which a girl was spit on in Beit Shemesh late last week, calling it "nauseating and disgusting." Speaking at a Shas faction meeting at the Knesset, Yishai said such "cheap behavior is forbidden according to the Torah" and that no rabbi would permit it.

The head of Shas pleaded with the public - and the media - "to recognize that this is an extremist group," lamenting that as a result of the spitting incident there is incitement against haredim. "I hope that will end soon," he said.

Yishai told party members that he too was the victim of "extremists" who threw stones at him several years ago while paying a Shiva call to a rabbi.
